Reference materials are our friend. We can find inspiration, patterns, or ideas from browsing books. Below are a few frugal and scrap sewing books and fun magazines, and if you don't see what you like, you can search Amazon directly with the litle box below. You can choose from Sewing and crafting books, Sewing, quilting, and crafting magazines, and there are even a few articles relating to using up your stash that you can read that we'll archive here from time to time.

The human sewing machine. Ever wonder how your sewing machine works? Check this out.
Article about sewing at home for profit from MotherJones.com. The author doesn't charge much for her services, but she has some great ideas about setting up a sewing business at home.

PATTERNS - FREE AND FRUGAL

Free sewing patterns from FitzPatterns. Instructions, patterns, various items of clothing.
Free sewing patterns from BurdaStyle. Again, several patterns for clothing and accessories.
Free hat, bag, and other patterns from WildGinger.com. Some free patterns called Wild Things to help you learn to use patterns you draft yourself.
E-SewingPatterns.com - We've not tried this yet, but the patterns are 99 cents and they take Paypal. You do have to download their software so the patterns print real size, but it looks like something I'd try.
Eye soother, sleep mask pattern from OldFashionedLiving.com (a nice site!).
Gift pockets.You can hang these on a Christmas tree, use them as gifts, for decorating, or for kids. (You don't need to use the wedge template they mention - use your own wedge created based on the picture.)
FreePatterns.com - Sewing, knitting, crochet patterns free on this site. If you have experience with this site, let us know.


CHARITABLE SEWING PROJECTS

SewMuchComfort.org, sewing adaptive clothing and other items for military folks recovering with and living with medical equipment, changes in their bodies, etc. Check the site and see. A great sewing project that you can help with.
